Gardens & Villa are releasing their new record, Music For Dogs, on August 21st via Secretly Canadian, and they are excited to release the video for their first single “Fixations.” Directed by Austin Kearns, the bizarre, psychedelic video features the band stumbling upon an e-cig and drug-fueled party, featuring a Segway-cruising Einstein/Warholian menace, portrayed by Foxygen’s Sam France.
"The video is a satire of the culture that we actively participate in. Critiquing the self is an exercise in humor. It's like an exaggeration of the 2015 internet-dependent human existence. It's funny and at the same time a strange modern void. Working with Austin Kearns and his team was a joy. They are true weirdos that mercilessly ride the wave of the future." - Chris Lynch, Gardens & Villa
Music for Dogs is a deeply personal album that pokes, prods, and even strangely celebrates the zeitgeist of music commerce, pleasure culture, technological advances, and the new home they've found in Los Angeles. The New Age and Eastern Religion sentiments that rippled across 2011's Gardens & Villa and 2014's Dunes have been swapped out with a new sort of zen pop-Nihilism.
Under the stewardship of visionary producer Jacob Portrait (Unknown Mortal Orchestra) and with irreplaceable rhythm section Dusty Ineman (drums) and Shane McKillop (bass), "Fixations" is really just Gardens & Villa doing what it has always done best.
