Weekend What's Up: Youth Lagoon

Weekend What's Up: Youth Lagoon

By Jesii Dee

Youth Lagoon is set to bring back their unique sounds to the Crescent Ballroom stage on Friday November 13th. Currently touring in support of their latest and third release, Savage Hills Ballroom (released September 25th, Fat Possum Records), Youth Lagoon have been on the road since the start of September, zig-zagging around the world in the process.

Youth Lagoon is the band name behind the man, Trevor Powers which holds unique space on its own: traversing through ambient synths, heavy hitting drum beats, sparkly piano loops and then some, as well as thoughtful and thought-provoking lyrics. Piano, trumpets and soaring vocals can be heard throughout Savage Hills Ballroom, adding a twist to the now more common dreamy synth pop sound and keeping it interesting in the process.

If you've been sleeping on listening to Youth Lagoon before, feel free to jump on in now. I highly recommend this show as the Crescent Ballroom to see them live as well, as it is the ideal venue for listening and enjoying the kind of music Youth Lagoon has to offer. The nuances won't be lost to the ether in the process of performing. You however might lose your mind in the process of being lead down the dreamy paths Youth Lagoon carves out, but that's the fun part. Tickets can be purchased here.
