Best of 2016: Dreams & Doorways' "Hidden Reflections Act 1 & 2"

By Shane Moyer

Already, the musical act known as Dreams & Doorways transcend genres and expectations by creating one of, if not the most palpable albums this year. My pick for favorite album of 2016 is Dreams & Doorways’ Hidden Reflections.

With two acts available for the whole world to listen and a rumor of a third act dropping by the end of the year, Hidden Reflections moves the soul through a deep wave after deep wave of harmonic talent. It is, in my opinion, a not so hidden reflection of how amazing these individuals truly are as musicians.

Act One sets the stage with huge guitar solos and super crisp changeovers. Blasting off with powerful funk inspired riffs blended with an angel's chorus, it beckons our heads into the clouds.  With a mystifying emotional joy, our souls are saturated with melodic woodwinds and enormous rhythm, which we are found wanting more. Though, these talented individuals do not disappoint.

Considering the huge ending of Act One, the artists open Act Two with full grown horns and another genre crossover, as a groovy hip hop element is delicately added. The ivory keys are intelligently placed leaving us open to a pop and a flight back into the sky. Once again, our ears are swallowed whole by their imagination and warm sentiment of love. Our journey ends with an emotional roller coaster leaving us slightly satisfied and yet an indescribable yearning.
