Best of 2016: St. Lucia's "Matter"

Best of 2016: St. Lucia's "Matter"

By Spike Brendle

St. Lucia was a big part of my life in 2016. From the time of its release on January 29th, Matter had pretty much taken control of my Spotify feed - since proven by my Spotify “Your 2016 in music” stats. This album has been the soundtrack to most of my day-to-day activities: getting ready in the morning, commuting to and from work, jogging in the evening, and even my goodnight serenade.

The album starts out huge, keeps its momentum throughout, and ends with a farewell ballad that leaves the listener fully satisfied. I could break Matter down song by song, but the real enjoyment comes from listening from start to finish. St. Lucia’s music has a way of pulling the good feelings from deep down inside and reflecting them through to you and the world around. This album should be anyone’s go-to when feeling down. Even when you are feeling awesome, it will still take your day to the next level.

Matter is heavy on synth, pop, and 80’s nostalgia with underlying tropical beats and “matter”, if you will. If that is what you are into, then you probably already own this album. Runner up (because you need to know): Lady Gaga’s Joanne.
