Treefort Music Festival: Pre-Game
By Jesii Dee
Alright, here we go! It’s officially the first day of Treefort Music Festival, celebrating its fifth year, in the lovely city of Boise, Idaho.
A quick history: a fateful meeting of minds created the idea of a mini-festival, when the influx of bands traveling back home from SXSW was at its peak. The inaugural festival was rightfully billed as an indie rock DIY event, and when 3,000 people showed up to participate in the music, art, dance and seminars offered, it stuck. The event has since grown year after year, and this year is hosting over 450 bands, 600 volunteers, and 20 venues at one very cool headquarters. Plus, full support of forts: Alefort, Comedyfort, Filmfort, Foodfort, Hackfort, Kidfort, Performance Art, Skatefort, Storyfort, and Yogafort. In addition, Treefort is a certified B-Corp, the only music festival to do so. What this means is that even though they are a for-profit, they met the standards of a non-profit and how it gives back to the community.
So, with all that being said, I’ve got a FULL plate for the rest of the week ahead, starting tonight with the first round of live music, and going full steam ahead from there. I’m looking forward to the bands I know and love, as well as discovering new music, checking out the other ‘forts and what they have to offer, and just running around a great city for a few days with so many things to do.
