MixPicks: The Lemon Twigs

By Mixtape Mandi

The Lemon Twigs will instantly become your new favorite band. A young band from Hicksville, Long Island, The Lemon Twigs are fronted by brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario, a balls-to-the-wall-of-sound subtle explosion of two musical masterminds experiencing grand gestures of music at a young age with parts in Broadway musicals or in TV shows along with music lessons at the youngest age of five. While still at a young age (not even drinking age yet), the band is currently at an acceleration with their popularity as they begin to play shows and festivals in the UK, all around New York, and landing a tour with Sunflower Bean this fall.

When they released their debut album, What We Know, in 2014, they were in the midst of touring with Foxygen, capturing the attention of Jonathan Rado to record their new album, Do Hollywood, due out October 14th on 4AD. In correlation with the album announcement, The Lemon Twigs released via NPR the baroque-style video to accompany baroque-rock throwback style of latest single “These Words.” Before this, the band released retro-influenced “As Long As We’re Together” as the first listen to the psych-pop atmosphere the Twigs are currently floating through. The songs are lo-fi in production; however you don’t feel the underwhelming lo-fi sound prying its way through the airwaves for approval of legitimacy as most DIY lo-fi records possess.

I’m glad I found this band when I did, so I hope you give them a listen before it’s too late and they’re headlining all the major festivals that you won’t be able to afford. Catch them on tour this fall with Car Seat Headrest, Methyl Ethyl, or Sunflower Bean in a city near you, and be on the lookout for Do Hollywood this October, which is currently available for pre-order
